<p>The high pressure pump has a valve element (1) that is arranged in a bore (2) of a valve housing (3). The valve element is guided in a stroke. A conical shaped valve seat (4) is connected to a suction space (5). The suction space in a flow direction (6) of the sucked fuel is merged into a suction valve channel (7) with a reduced flow cross-section. A first conical portion (8) is connected to a second conical portion (9).
