The invention relates to a method for operating a cooker (2) in the case of which operating cycles are controlled by a timer (8) of the cooker (2), wherein control takes place in dependence on a selected mode of operation of the cooker (2), wherein, following selection of the mode of operation, using the timer (8), a relay (10) is closed and, as a result, a heating unit and a cooking-chamber-illuminating means and at least one fan are switched on. The invention also relates to a control device for a cooker and to a corresponding cooker (2).
