PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an overload protection device for a gearbox for applying torque through a prime mover to a load.SOLUTION: An input shaft 2B of a gear box is driven by a prime mover and rotates therewith. An external spline 2P on the input shaft 2B mates with an internal spline 2I of an input gear 2A. Upon an overload produced in the gear box, an annular groove 82F provided in the input shaft 2B fractures. A bushing 2C preventing travel of a portion of the input shaft 2B which is driven by the prime mover and which continues to spin after the fracture is arranged in a bore of the input gear 2A.
