A method implemented in a base station used in a wireless communications system is disclosed. The method comprises transmitting an index indicating data stream parameters, and transmitting an indication of the number of transmit antennas at the base station, wherein the data stream parameters for 8 transmit antennas are indicated by the index according to a first table, and wherein the data stream parameters for 4 transmit antennas are indicated by the index according to a second table.
