PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal cycler capable of performing a thermal cycle in a short time.SOLUTION: A thermal cycler includes: a mounting section to which a reaction vessel is mounted, the reaction vessel including a channel that is filled with a reaction liquid and a liquid different in the specific gravity from the reaction liquid and immiscible with the reaction liquid, and where the reaction liquid approaches an opposed inner wall and moves; a temperature gradient forming section that forms the temperature gradient to the channel in a direction in which the reaction liquid moves when the reaction vessel is mounted on the mounting section; a driving mechanism that rotates the mounting section and the temperature gradient forming section about a rotary shaft having a vertical component to a direction in which a gravity acts and having a vertical component to the direction in which the reaction liquid moves in the channel when the reaction vessel is mounted on the mounting section; and a controller that controls the driving mechanism. The controller controls the driving mechanism so that the rotational speed of the driving mechanism is 0.5 rotation/second or more and a centrifugal force that acts on the reaction liquid is one time or less of the gravity. |
