Punch rivet (10) for the joining of component parts (50, 52), said punch rivet comprising a head portion (14) and a shaft portion (12) connecting to the head portion (14) in a longitudinal direction (15), the shaft portion (12) having a punching edge (18) at an end (16) remote from the head portion (14), the head portion (14), at a head end portion remote from the shaft portion (12), having a greater outer diameter than the shaft portion (12).
