PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 1-butene-based polymer that polymerizes 1-butene with high activity, and produces poly(1-butene) having a high melting point. SOLUTION: In the method for producing a 1-butene-based polymer, homopolymerization of 1-butene or copolymerization of 1-butene with one or more selected from ethylene, propylene, and a 5-12C α-olefin is performed in the presence of an olefin polymerization catalyst comprising (A) a transition metal compound represented by general formula [I], wherein M is Ti, Zr, Hf, etc., and (B) a boron-containing compound that forms an ion pair by a reaction with (B-1) an organometallic compound and (B-2) the transition metal compound (A).
