PURPOSE: A composition for permanent wave and a straightener, containing acetyl cysteine and isooctyl thioglycolate in a reducing first agent is provided to reduce hair damage and scalp irritation, to style stable and elastic wave and straight hair, and to improve persistence. CONSTITUTION: A composition for permanent wave and a straightener contains a reducing first agent and an oxidative second agent, or the reducing first agent. The reducing first agent contains 0.1-10.0 wt% of acetyl cysteine and isooctyl thioglycolate mixed in a weight ratio of 10:1-1:10. The composition has pH 6.5-9.5.
