357,677. Spectacles. WINGATE, G. H., 15, Wigmore Street, Cavendish Square, London. July 14, 1930, No. 21311. [Class 97 (i).] Relates to folding spectacles. In the form shown in Fig. 2 the sides 6, 7 are carried by projections 5 of a length about equal to the thickness of the two eyes when folded so that when the spectacles are folded each side lies against the eye to which it is not attached. The material of the eyes is widened at 4 to provide surfaces to rest upon the wearer's nose, the bridge lying above the wearer's nose and having no function as a rest but only as a hinged connecting piece. The eyes 1 fold about vertical pivots consisting of forks 3 on each side of a central part 2 against which both eyes abut when opened. The sides 6, 7 are themselves foldable, the outer parts lying when folded below the inner parts. In the form shown in Figs. 3 and 4 the two parts 6, 7 of each side are connected by a link 8 and fold about vertical axes in such a way that the part 6 lies against the eye to which it is not attached and the part 7 lies above or below the part 6 on the other side, the link 8 extending across the thickness of the folded eyes. Each link 8 comprise a central part 9, Figs. 5 and 6, preferably integral with a plate 10, and a second plate 11 and rivets &c. 12 forming the pivots. A leaf spring 13 may be provided to take up wear. The sides shown in Figs. 3 and 4 are applicable to folding spectacles generally.
