PURPOSE: A washing machine and a control method thereof are provided to improve the balancing of laundry in the drum by determining the driving speed according to the amount of laundry. CONSTITUTION: A control method for a washing machine comprises a step of sensing the amount of laundry, a step of operating a drum at a first speed so that a part of laundry is moved within the drum while the other adheres to the interior of the drum if the sensed laundry amount is over a first value while driving the drum at a second speed if the sensed laundry amount is less than the first value, a step of increasing the speed of the drum from the first speed to the second speed if the detected eccentricity of the drum is equal to or less than a second value, a step of stopping or decelerating the drum if the eccentricity of the drum detected during the second-speed driving is over a third value, a step of stopping or decelerating the drum if the eccentricity of the drum detected during the second-speed driving is over a third value, and a step of stopping or decelerating the drum if the duration of the first-speed driving is over a set time. |
