PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for evaluating the wall thinning of a ferromagnetic pipe using a bipolar pulse current are provided to detect variation in an induced magnetic flux in a subject using a sensor, thereby quantitatively measuring the thickness variation of the pipe. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus (100) for evaluating the wall thinning of a ferromagnetic pipe using a bipolar pulse current includes a probe (40), a power supply part (10), a signal amplification filtering part (20), a signal processing part (30), and a scanner (50). The probe has an uneven cross-section, and is separated from a ferromagnetic subject (1) without contacts. The probe forms a pulse magnetic field at the subject, and measures defects inside the subject. The power supply part supplies bipolar pulse power to the probe. The signal amplification filtering part receives the defect signal of the subject from the probe, and amplifies and filtering the signal. The signal processing part receives and processes the amplified and filtered measurement signal, and then calculates the wall thinning and thickness variation of the subject. The scanner moves the subject. [Reference numerals] (10) Power supply part; (20) Signal amplification filtering part; (30) Signal processing part |
