PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition for a luminescent element that can be suitably used as a sealing layer for a luminescent element such as an organic EL element etc., or as a base material etc. for forming a sealing container and a luminescent element, and to provide a luminescent element. SOLUTION: The resin composition for a luminescent element comprises a cyclized conjugated diene polymer and an alicyclic olefinic resin, wherein, the cyclized conjugated diene polymer is obtained by cyclizing a conjugated diene polymer and a decreasing ratio of the unsaturated bonds (unsaturated bond decreasing ratio) existing in the cyclized conjugated diene polymer to the unsaturated bonds existing in the conjugated diene polymer is at least 30%. The luminescent element comprises a substrate, a luminescent layer arranged on the substrate, and a layered product for a luminescent element covering the luminescent layer. The luminescent element is made by sealing the substrate and the luminescent layer arranged on the substrate by the layered product for a luminescent element and by an adhesive resin layer containing a composition having a similar construction to the resin composition for a luminescent element.
