The present specification relates to a method for designing a power line coupler which includes a transmitting unit and a receiving unit for transmitting and receiving a signal between a power line and a power line modem and a power line coupler circuit, and the power line coupler designed by the same. The method for designing the power line coupler includes the steps of: forming a transmission equivalent circuit including magnetization inductance by the signal transmission process of the transmitting unit; determining the power line impedance of the power line as the minimum value to attenuate the signal by a cutoff frequency with regards to the transmission equivalent circuit; determining a current limit resistor to limit the current of an amplifier of the transmitting unit based on the maximum output voltage and the maximum output current applied to the power line; and determining the value of a coupling capacitor connected to the power line of the power line coupler circuit and the magnetization inductance to make a Q factor over 1/2 with regards to the transmission equivalent circuit. |
