A method for reading phonebook data from a subscriber identity module card and a terminal therefor are provided to use phonebook data stored in a mobile terminal instead of reading the phonebook data from a SIM card when a user dials a telephone number stored in the phonebook, thereby preventing delay of a call attempt. A method for reading phonebook data from a subscriber identity module card includes the steps of comparing ID of a SIM(Subscriber Identity Module) card with a stored ID as the SIM card is inserted into a mobile terminal(S202,S210), and reading phonebook data stored in the mobile terminal if the compared IDs are equal with each other(S212,S214). In the other case, phonebook data is downloaded from the SIM card. The phonebook data stored in the mobile terminal is renewed by the downloaded phonebook data(S208). |
