The present invention relates to a system and a method for repairing display panels. The purpose of the present invention is to provide the system and the method for repairing the display panels to accurately detect foreign materials interposed on the display panels regardless of the size of the foreign materials. The system for repairing the display panels is to repair the bad pixel of the display panels which are formed as a multi-layered structure containing a substrate and a thin film electrode. The system comprises a foreign material detecting device for detecting the foreign materials interposed on the display panels by projecting specific patterned beams to the display panels. The foreign material detecting device detects the foreign materials by obtaining flat DOF images while focusing the specific patterned beams to a predetermined layer of the display panels.
