发明名称 Improvements in or relating to glass melting furnaces
摘要
366,530. Glass furnaces. HARTFORDEMPIRE CO., 333, Homestead Avenue, Hartford, Connecticut, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Mulholland, V. ; 26, Sunset Terrace, West Hartford, Connecticut, U.S.A.) Nov. 1, 1930, No. 32941. Convention date, Nov. 9, 1929. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii).] A glass melting furnace, into which the batch is fed at one end, is heated by a flame extending over the whole surface of the bath, the conditions being controlled to provide a heat gradient along the length of the furnace, and uniform heating across its width. In the reversibly-fired furnace shown the side walls 17 of the tank are set some distance inwards from the furnace walls 14, in which are formed closely spaced burner apertures 24. Air for combustion is supplied from regenerators 20 through vertical ports 19 adjacent the walls 14, and the flames develop in the space between these walls and the bath, so that the edge portion of the latter are subjected to the final flame temperature. The regenerators are subdivided along the length of the furnace into a number of sections independently controlled by dampers 32, and the supplies of fuel and air are preferably so adjusted that firing is effected with a neutral flame, and the temperature rises from the dog-house end to a maximum at about one-third the distance between this end and the bridge wall 12. The walls of the tank are cooled by air under pressure delivered from boxes 34 through openings 36 at the glass line. The boxes are spaced from the walls by vertical flanges which prevent horizontal flow of the cooling air. Leakage of air into the regenerators is minimized by encasing each unit in a steel jacket, or coating the outside of the walls with a heat-resisting paint made e.g. from a mixture of barium sulphate and silicate of sodium. The burners 25, Fig. 4, which are not in use, are withdrawn from the ports 24 by a lever and link arrangement 38, which simultaneously moves a spring-pressed plate 39 over the port. In a modification, the regenerators are set further apart, and the ports 19 are inclined. Specification 5291/86, [Class 51, Furnaces and kilns], is referred to.
