A lithium secondary battery is provided to prevent degradation of lifespan caused by swelling/shrinking of an electrode plate, thereby realizing improved lifespan characteristics and charge/discharge cycle characteristics. A lithium secondary battery comprises a casing in which an anode, a cathode, a separator interposed between the anode and the cathode and an electrolyte are received. In the battery, the electrolyte comprises a non-aqueous organic solvent, a lithium salt and succinic anhydride. The anode comprises a silicon thin film or silicon-graphite composite material as an anode active material, and the cathode comprises a lithium intercalation compound as a cathode active material. The succinic anhydride additive is used in an amount of 0.5-2 wt% based on the total weight of the electrolyte. |
