The present invention relates to a channel tuning apparatus in a broadcast receiver and a method thereof. A channel tuning apparatus according to the present invention comprises: a tunable band elimination filter for eliminating the frequency band of a radio frequency signal determined by being controlled among received radio frequency signals; a tuner for converting the radio frequency signal passing the tunable band elimination filter into an intermediate frequency signal; a demodulator for generating a signal-to-noise ratio value based on the intermediate frequency signal and demodulating the intermediate frequency signal; and a control unit for generating signal strength information of whole channels from the radio frequency signal passing the tunable band elimination filter and controlling the tunable band elimination filter based on the signal strength information of the whole channels and reception request channel information.
