PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor optical element which includes a pyroelectric first substrate having an optical waveguide formed on a surface thereof and a second substrate connected to the first substrate via an insulating adhesive layer and is capable of suppressing an internal pyroelectric effect, and to provide an optical module.SOLUTION: A semiconductor optical element of the present invention includes; a first substrate which has an optical waveguide on an upper surface thereof and exhibits an electro-optic effect and pyroelectricity: and a second substrate whose upper surface is connected to a lower surface of the first substrate via an insulating adhesive layer. A first conductive film is formed on the lower surface of the first substrate, and a second conductive film is formed on at least one side face of the first substrate and a corresponding side face of the second substrate. The first conductive film and the second conductive film are electrically connected. |
