PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a buffer material which is excellent in sealability and is made of inorganic fibrous paper, and to provide a method for producing the same.SOLUTION: The buffer material (except a denitrification catalyst buffer material) is made of inorganic fibrous paper which includes first biosoluble inorganic fibers having an average fiber diameter of 3 μm to 7 μm, second biosoluble inorganic fibers having an average fiber diameter of 2 μm to 3 μm and smaller than the average fiber diameter of the first biosoluble inorganic fibers, and a binder. The first biosoluble inorganic fiber and the second biosoluble inorganic fiber are different in chemical compositions. The first biosoluble inorganic fiber is either a SiO/CaO fiber in which a SiOcontent is 50 to 82 mass%, a CaO content is 5 to 34 mass%, and a MgO content is 1 mass% or less, or a SiO/MgO fiber in which a SiOcontent is 50 to 82 mass%, a MgO content is 1 to 20 mass%, and a CaO content is 1 to 9 mass%. |
