PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object area estimation device that recognizes a three-dimensional position relation among a plurality of objects in an image, and can divide an area of the image including an adjacent relation among the objects.SOLUTION: The object area estimation device comprises: image small area division means that divides an entire input image into small sub areas; local image characteristic extraction means that extracts a local image characteristic vector for each small sub area; area image characteristic extraction means that extracts an area image characteristic vector for each small sub area; boundary image characteristic extraction means that extracts a boundary image characteristic vector from a boundary area in contact with adjacent two small sub areas; quantization means that discretizes the local image characteristic vector, the area image characteristic vector and the boundary image characteristic vector and outputs a quantization characteristic vector; and model estimation means that estimates an object area model by letting the quantization characteristic vector be an observation variable and thereby extracts an object area and a boundary of the object area in the input image.
