PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an azo compound which exhibits high solubility in a medium containing water as a main component, is stable even when a high-concentration aqueous solution or an ink thereof is preserved for a long period of time, generates no bronzing phenomenon, and which provides a recorded image having high printing density, excellent color rendering properties and an achromatic high-quality black color and to provide an ink composition containing the azo compound.SOLUTION: An azo compound shown by formula (1) is provided (wherein Ais an optionally-substituted aryl group or an optionally-substituted heterocyclic group; Ais an optionally-substituted aryl group; Ais an optionally-substituted sulfo aryl group; Ais an optionally-substituted heterocyclic group). Tautomeric isomers of the azo compound and salts of the azo compound and the tautomeric isomers are also provided.
