PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an error detection device dispensing with extra hardware, and capable of surely notifying of an error of a real-time clock.SOLUTION: An error detection device for an RTC (Real-Time Clock) 23 retains clock information allowing setup of a time, year-month-day, and a day of the week in an image forming apparatus 1. The error detection device includes: a power supply abnormality detection unit 27 that detects an error of the RTC 23 beforehand; a time and date information initialization unit 29 that, when the error of the RTC 23 is detected, initializes the clock information and sets the year-month-day by the initialization and a day-of-week that is different from an actual year-month-day, for the year-month-day; and a day-of-week operation unit 33 that detests the error of the RTC 23 ex post facto by a difference between the day-of-week to the year-month-day after the initialization and the day-of-week to the actual year-month-day. |
