The press has an upper frame (10) including a presser (11) for clamping a sheet metal part (12) supported by a lower frame (14) of the press. A periphery (11b) of a surface (11a) of the presser is designed to clamp the sheet metal part, and carries one or more elastomeric bands (16), where each elastomeric band is partially engaged in a groove made in the surface of the presser. The presser is movable relative to the upper frame, where the presser is biased for applying a predetermined clamping force on the sheet metal part, sufficient to compress the elastomeric bands.
