<p>A gate valve (82) is disclosed that may be installed in a pressurized pipe (51) or conduit. The gate valve (82) includes a cylindrical gate housing (101) that has a slot (80) through which a rectangular gate (103) slides between an open and closed position. The gate (103) and gate housing (101) provide seals (117) between the gate valve (82) and the housing section (53) that houses the gate housing (101) when the gate valve (82) is in either an open or a closed position. The bottom seal (122) that engages the pressurized pipe (51) may be equipped with stiffening shields (143) for a higher pressure rating. The operating torque to raise and lower the seal assembly (128) has been substantially reduced by the design of the sliding gate (103) within the gate housing (101).</p> |
