PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage water heater configured to decrease the number of recovery ports where the hot water returning from a use side heat exchanger is recovered in a hot water storage tank as much as possible, and also to eliminate the need for a temperature sensor for detecting the temperature of a returning hot water, thereby reliably preventing the occurrence of hot water stopping and maintaining high efficiency of boiling operation.SOLUTION: A storage water heater includes: an upper return circuit for returning hot water taken out of a hot water storage tank 10 via a use side heat exchanger 22 to an upper area of the hot water storage tank 10; a lower return circuit for returning the hot water taken out of the hot water storage tank 10 via the use side heat exchanger 22 to a lower area of the hot water storage tank 10; a flow path switching means for switching between the upper return circuit and the lower return circuit; a detection means for detecting a temperature of stored hot water at a predetermined height position in the hot water storage tank 10; and a control unit 70 configured to use the upper return circuit when a detection value of the detection means is a threshold value or more upon starting a heating operation, and to use the lower return circuit when the detection value of the detection means is less than the threshold value. |
