The electric machine (10) has an exciting machine (30) provided for supplying an excitation winding (25) of the main machine (20) with electrical energy. The primary rotor (31) of the exciter is non-rotatably connected with rotor (24) of the main engine and provided with induction winding (36). The secondary rotor (32) is rotatably drivable relative to primary rotor of the exciter and to a stator (22) of the main engine. An independent claim is included for method for exciting electric machine.
