A position code is configured so that a plurality of cyclic main number sequences, in which a main number sequence of base number b and length K is made to cycle and in which K unique partial sequences of a predetermined length are included, are each shifted in accordance with a predetermined amount and positioned in a one-dimensional direction. At a reader unit, from at least two adjacent sequences among a plurality of cyclic main number sequences, partial sequences of length N satisfying "K + K * (b - 1) * N <= bN" are each read. At an assessment unit, with regard to each read partial sequence of length N, locations in the cyclic main number sequences are assessed. At an acquisition unit, on the basis of the assessed locations, position information imparted to the read position of the position code is acquired. |
