<p>A method for rendering a substrate hydrophobic while maintaining its biodegradability includes treating the substrate with a halosilane such that the halosilane forms a silicone resin in the interstitial spaces of the substrate. The method parameters can be controlled such that the resulting hydrophobic cellulosic substrate is compostable.</p> |
