PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer which can correctly and easily detect a pitch P of paper pieces (label pieces 18) of a continuous body of printing paper (a label continuous body 14) in order to eliminate waste, and to provide a method for measuring the pitch of paper pieces and a method for detecting the position of the continuous body of printing paper.SOLUTION: A thermal printer is focused on the measurement of a pitch P of a succeeding paper piece 18 of a continuous body 14 of printing paper while the printing of the lead paper piece 18 is started from a state that it is set in a printing start position 5A in a printing section. The first paper piece 18 of the continuous body 14 of printing paper can be set in the printing start position 5A of the printing section by using a first paper sensor, a second paper sensor and the printing section. The pitch P in the transfer direction in a transfer path of the subsequent paper piece 18 can be measured by the first paper sensor accompanied by the printing of the first paper piece 18 by the printing section. |
