PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption by a source device and improve speed of transmission when image data is transmitted.SOLUTION: A control method comprises: a step of performing communication with an external device through the communication means; a step of transmitting image data to the external device; a step of determining whether the communication means is connected with the external device on the basis of a connection signal received from the external device; a step of determining whether the external device is in a state of enabling display of the image data on the basis of information detected by the communication means; a step of storing ability information of the external device which is received from the external device by the communication means in the storage means; and a step of controlling the communication means to stop transmission of the image data in a state of storing the ability information of the external device stored in the storage means when it is determined that the external device is connected with the external device and the external device is not in the state of enabling display of the image data.
