摘要 In a pixel circuit (11), during a period during which an organic EL element (OLED) is not emitting light, transistors (T5, T7) are in an "on" state and the organic EL element (OLED) is reversed-biased by a low-level power-supply potential (Vss) and a reverse-biasing power-supply potential (Vr). A reverse-direction voltage (Voledr) determined by a reverse-direction current (Ioledr) that depends on the degree to which degradation of the organic EL element (OLED) has progressed is thus written to a capacitor (C3). A data voltage (Vsig) is then supplied to said capacitor (C3) via another capacitor (C1), bringing the drive voltage of a transistor (T2) that controls the current that drives the organic EL element (OLED) to Vsig + Voledr. This makes it possible to minimize decreases in the emission luminance of an electro-optical element such as an organic EL element due to degradation thereof over time.
