The method involves receiving a regeneration request. A determination is made whether a state-of-charge of a traction battery (32) lies within a predetermined area of a target value. Regeneration event is triggered when the state-of-charge of the traction battery lies within the predetermined area of the target value. An immediate rotational torque request is received. A multiphase permanent alternative current electromotor (14) i.e. electric generator, of a hybrid powertrain (10) is operated in response to the received immediate rotational torque request.
