Provided are an illumination device and a display device with which light usage efficiency and luminance can be improved while inhibiting luminance unevenness, using a simple configuration. The present invention is provided with: a plurality of light sources (11) arranged side by side; a light guide member (12) which guides light from the light sources (11); and protruded portions (20) which protrude, from an end surface (18) of the light guide member (12), towards each of the light sources (11). The protruded portions (20) are provided with side surfaces (21) which are formed such that emitted light extending in the arrangement direction of the light sources (11) is emitted to the exterior of the light guide member (12), and re-enters the light guide member (12) from the end surface (18).
