PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document management system by which document data requested by a user can be acquired from a document data management device and displayed quickly with the minimum amount of communication, even with the small amount of transmission of data per unit time of a communication line connecting a document browsing device and the document data management device.SOLUTION: A document browsing device transmits information indicating final update time to be stored in advance for document management information including at least identification information of document data. A document data management device acquires information indicating the final update time from the document browsing device, and transmits the document management information updated so far from the final update time to the document browsing device.
