PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical instrument for clamping a tissue, making an anvil assembly and a cartridge assembly proximate to each other and surgically jointing the tissue.SOLUTION: A surgical instrument includes: a handle portion 160; an elongated portion 120 extending from the handle portion in a distal direction and having a longitudinal axis; a pair of jaws disposed to adjoin the distal end of the elongated portion; and a clamping device 200 having a clamping surface extending substantially transversely from the elongated member and a height exceeding a height of the elongated member to extend adjacent a side surface of the jaw containing a plurality of fasteners. The clamping device is movable from a proximal position to a distal position for engaging a body tissue. |
