The method involves activating a stop light according to actuation of brake pedals. Light intensity of the stop light is adjusted based on driving conditions. The driving conditions are controlled based on a line type of the light or visibility by using a control unit. Lighting signals from a light sensor are determined. Visibility of a rain sensor signal and status of a windscreen wiper are determined and evaluated. Light intensity of a brake light is reduced when determining that the driving conditions correspond to jam in a city. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle.
