PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treating agent exhibiting fast action on reduction of gastric acid secretion in resting phase, suppression of rise of pH in the stomach and shortening of gastric acid secretion period in a secretagogue phase, sometimes exhibiting prolonged action, and useful for treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), non-erosive reflux disease (NERD), Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (ZE disease), ulcer disease and gastric cancer, as well as elimination or reduction of the risk of ulcer diseases.SOLUTION: There is provided use of pharmaceutically acceptable zinc salts, preferably water soluble zinc salts alone or optionally, in combination with one or more drugs such as a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), H2 blocker, anti-H. pylori antibiotic/antimicrobial agent, and cytoprotective agent. The present methods are useful for treating patients who are non-responsive to proton pump inhibitors (PPI) and for treating conditions caused by rapid and complete inhibition of a secretagogue which induces acid secretion. |
