PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter capable of securing stable sealing performance.SOLUTION: A starter includes an output shaft having a pinion for transmitting turning force to a ring gear for starting an internal combustion engine. a motor coupled to an output shaft to generate turning force, an electromagnetic switch for producing thrust for meshing a ring gear and pinion, a shift lever for transmitting thrust of the electromagnetic switch to the output shaft to move the output shaft in an axial direction, a front bracket containing an opening in which the electromagnetic switch and motor are mounted from the substantially same direction and having at least one notch formed on a circumference of the opening, and a lever packing arranged in the notch to seal a clearance between the opening, an electromagnetic switch and the motor, wherein the lever packing is formed of elastic body having a hollow part and envelops a lever holder formed of an inelastic body in the hollow part. |
