[Problem] To provide an organic electroluminescent element equipped with a capping layer that has a high refractive index, has a small difference among refractive indexes measured at wavelength regions respectively corresponding to blue color, green color and red color, has excellent thin film stability and durability, and is formed from a material having no absorption in wavelength regions respectively corresponding to blue color, green color and red color, for the purpose of improving the element properties of the organic electroluminescent element, particularly greatly improving the light-extracting efficiency of the organic electroluminescent element. [Solution] An organic electroluminescent element comprising at least an anode, a hole transport layer, a light-emitting layer, an electron transport layer, a cathode and a capping layer in this order, wherein the capping layer contains a phthalic acid derivative represented by general formula (chemical formula 1). |
