PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a split mechanical seal allowing segment holding work to be performed easily and properly, and allowing a split seal ring to be efficiently assembled in a proper form.SOLUTION: In an outside-type split mechanical seal, split seal rings 5 and 9 comprise tip ring portions 5A and 9A forming sealed end faces 5a and 9a, middle ring portions 5B and 9B tightly bound by tight-binding rings 4 and 8, and base end ring portions 5C and 9C tightly bound by garter springs 11 and 12 which are elastically expansive in diameter, and are configured to be fixed and held with retainer rings 3 and 7 while maintaining a segment assembly form, by fastening the tight-binding rings 4 and 8 to the retainer rings 3 and 7, in the segment assembly form annularly held by tightly binding the base end ring portions 5C and 9C with the garter springs 11 and 12. |
