Embodiments of the present invention provide a method for detecting a patch cord connection and a device for detecting a patch cord connection. The method comprises: receiving first configuration information delivered by a management system, the first configuration information comprising port identifiers of at least one pair of ports that should be connected on an optical distribution device; receiving second configuration information reported by the optical distribution device, the second configuration information comprising port identifiers of at least one pair of ports connected on the optical distribution device; and matching the ports that should be connected indicated by the first configuration information and the connected ports indicated by the second configuration information to obtain a matching result, the matching result comprising port identifiers of a connected port and an unconnected port that does not match the port that should be connected. The efficiency of detecting a patch cord connection is increased.
