PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image heating device capable of preventing an inconvenience such as gloss unevenness and a fixation failure by suppressing a temperature decrease at the beginning of successive printing of recording materials such as thick sheets in an image heating device such as a fixation device.SOLUTION: An image heating device (9) includes contact separation control means (16). The contact separation control means controls, when image heating processing is started, contact separation means (23) to bring an image heating roller (30) and a rotation member (40) into contact from their separation so as to decrease a surface temperature of the image heating roller and execute a heating operation by a heating source (31). Further, the contact separation control means executes, on the basis of a temperature detection by detection means (32a), a heat accumulation mode for temporarily separating the image heating roller and the rotation member when the surface temperature of the image heating roller becomes lower than a target temperature for a prescribed temperature or more. |
