The tensioner (20) has front and rear clamping locks (10) into which a belt strap is guided. The belt strap cooperates with a belt-side clamping lock of clamping belts. The clamping locks comprise a release side and a close side concerning the belt strap. A lever (21) is provided with a gripping section (21a). The clamping locks comprise clamping bars (12b) turned away from the gripping section. The clamping locks are displaced to each other along the lever and/or a carrier. The front and rear clamping locks are arranged opposite to each other relative to the sides. An independent claim is also included for a method for clamping of clamping belts by a tensioner.
