The present invention relates to a remote control apparatus and method capable of controlling every electronic device which displays auxiliary information through a projector regardless of the existence of a display device for operating the electronic device using the virtual touch of a user at a remote distance through the movement (gesture) of the user and includes a 3D coordinate generator extracting 3D coordinate data of a user's body and the electronic device; an electronic device detector using the 3D coordinate data of the electronic device generated by the 3D coordinate generator, recognizing location information and product information of the electronic device, displaying a projector in a location where the user can check, and generating a virtual contact point for a virtual touch between the user and the projector based on direction information corresponding to the line between the user and the projector; a user detector using the 3D coordinate data of the user's body generated by the 3D coordinate generator to generate a virtual touch position of the projector for controlling the electronic device and a position variation thereof and generating a command code performing a predetermined control of the electronic device based on the generated virtual touch position variation; an electronic device controller converting the control of a corresponding electronic device into a control command signal and transmitting the control command signal to the corresponding electronic device; and an electronic device information database storing product information, such as manufacturer and model name of the electronic device in home, protocol information applied to the control for a product, control information for an electronic device.
