PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device and a control method of a hybrid vehicle that can perform driving control properly reflecting an intention of a driver to the required driving force of the vehicle even when paddle switch operation is performed during execution of an EV mode to travel the vehicle only by driving force of a motor, and can improve fuel consumption and reduce environmental load by controlling the start of an internal combustion engine which is originally unnecessary.SOLUTION: When an instruction to change the gear position manually by operating a paddle switch 65 in traveling in an EV drive mode is issued, it is determined whether traveling by the EV drive mode can be continued, while maintaining the present gear position, based on the target driving force after the change in the gear position. When the traveling by the EV drive mode can be continued, traveling by the EV drive mode is made to be continued, while maintaining the present gear position. |
