PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device that can accurately detect a stripe flaw or the like and improve a surface condition of a fixing member in accordance with a level of the detected stripe flaw or the like.SOLUTION: While a sheet type recording medium S carrying a toner image is conveyed under pressure by a pair of rotating members, the toner image is fixed by applying heat and pressure. Surface information detecting means 200, 300 irradiates the surface of a fixing member 61 of the pair of rotating members, which comes into contact with a top surface side of the sheet type recording medium, with a plurality of light spots in a direction intersecting the conveyance direction; receives and senses reflected light from each light spot; and detects the surface information of the fixing member surface based on the plurality of detection results. Surface condition varying means 67 having a surface rougher than the roughness of the fixing member surface is disposed to be in contact with and separating from the fixing member surface. Sliding on the fixing member surface by the surface condition varying means is controlled based on the detected surface information. |
