[Class 100 (ii).] The method of decorating hard-surfaced covering-material described in the parent Specification is modified by providing a coating below the superimposed upstanding pattern for the purpose of filling the pores in the base coating; the latter, however, is not necessarily in the form of a pattern. As described, a base coating which consists of an oil paint and may or may not be decorative, is applied to a web 2 supported by an endless band 5, by means of a doctor blade 3 provided with extremely fine notches, and the coating is flattened by a curved spring blade 6. An allover pattern is then printed on the base coating by a rotary offset machine, a pore-filling varnish coating is applied by spraying or by a doctor blade or rollers, a prominent pattern in a thick paint or metallic ink is applied by a block machine or by stencilling or other operation, and a final protective coat of lacquer is applied by rollers, followed by drying. The varnish coating may be applied before the pattern is dried.</p> |
