An ultrasonic observation device is equipped with: a frequency analysis unit that calculates the frequency spectrum for each of a plurality of locations within a predetermined region of a specimen by analyzing the frequencies of ultrasonic waves for the plurality of locations; a frequency spectrum approximation calculation unit that calculates an approximation of the frequency spectrum for each location calculated by the frequency analysis unit; a deviation degree calculation unit that calculates the degree of deviation of the frequency spectrum for each location calculated by the frequency analysis unit from the approximation of the frequency spectrum calculated by the frequency spectrum approximation calculation unit corresponding to the frequency spectrum; and a deviation degree display image data generation unit that generates deviation degree display image data which includes information relating to the degree of deviation.
