PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oral controlled-release dosage form of hydrocodone.SOLUTION: An oral controlled-release dosage form includes: an analgesically effective amount of hydrocodone or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt; and a sufficient amount of a controlled release material to render the dosage form suitable for twice-a-day administration to a human patient. The hydrocodone or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt is (a) incorporated to a pharmaceutically acceptable matrix together with the controlled release material or (b) contained in or applied on a substrate and further coated with the controlled release material. The dosage form provides a C/Cratio of 0.55 to 0.85, and provides a therapeutic effect for at least about 12 hour.
